BIOGRAPHY
The history of Moshquito goes back to the early 80`s as a band named Argus from the west of Saxony started out with several coversongs. In 1982 the sound was getting harder and reached out for play offs in those good old GDR-dining halls filled with long-haired cowl-wearers, who wore selfmade metall-jackets and belts. Back then the members Thomas Sachse (voc), Ingo Lohf (gr), Steffen Häupl (g), Manfred Uhlig (bg) and Achim Waldheim (dr) crashed coversongs from Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon or Accept to the hungry minds of the Metall-Crowd. At the same time own german songs were written and published which had names like „ Karrieremänner“, „Graf Habgier“ or „Wieviel bleibt mir noch Zeit“ (because of the „classification“ (GDR specific) !).
Round 1985 Achim Waldheim quit with the band and some new guy called Uwe „Kuvi“ Kovarnik joined Moshqito and gave them much more quality because of his excellent drummer education. Now Metallica songs could have been played and filled the set with 6 songs of this very exiting band. Except that Metallica was coming up very quickly at that time and fans around the world were fascinated Moshquito participated highly from that constellation. Unfortanetly this fact was a thorn in the eye of the GDR political system and so concerts were cancelled and the members of moshquito got spyed. Last but not least Thomas was called up to military (NVA). The new frontman was Benjamin Müller from Gera and he decided in 1987 to recall the band from Argus to Moshquito. Argus or now Moshquito had reached cult status in GDR so halls were filled up to the end every second weekend. Another reason was a new setlist with songs from Slayer, Anthrax or Destruction – Celtic Frost-Cover.
Very quickly Benjamin Müller quit and a new frontman named Oliver Hippauf was born into the band. His rough style created new possibilties with music and now songs from Kreator and Running Wild were covered.
In 1987 the first record was published, a demo-tape with the title „No Back to Inferno“ which included 5 own english-songs and the legendary cover of the Beatle song „ Penny Lane “. This album was recorded in a private studio called „Over the Altstoffsammlung“and was selled at the concerts. Now Moshquito had developed themselves from a third-class Cover-Band to a rushing hard Trash/Speed-Metall band.
Oliver Hippauf was called up to military too after 1 ½ years and Benny Müller came back for frontman position. In 1988 the second album „Mosh in Moscow “ was recorded which had closed up with the straight Trash-Metal and showed up with new technical subtlety. This was an invention and showed the potential of the band.
With the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 the band did break up too. Suddenly halls were left empty, because Moshquito still was a Cover-band and the fans blew apart because of the possibilities to see the Originals now live. Manne Uhlig was the first who quit with the band and so did Steffen Häupl and Benny Müller. With Rochus Roder (g) and Andre Nebel (bg) Moshquito tried to survive and in 1991 the track „Only Death Is For Nothing“ was recorded. So Andre did the bass and the vocals!!
But it wasn`t the same anymore and so nobody really wonders that the track didn`t get heared and the try to sign a contract with a west-german company failed.
So Moshquito, Bad Attitude (Benny Müller band) and Radiation Dust (Oliver Hippauf band) played a last concert in the Chemnitzer Einheit with only 3 of the band members from Moshquito Ingo Lohf(g), Andre Nebel (bg/voc) and Uwe Kovarnik (dr). The final cut came as Ingo Lohf was ordered for several years to spain from his company.
In 1995 after Ingo was back from spain he was so excited to give new life to Moshquito. So he called Andre, Kuvi and Rochus for new plans. Unfortanetly only Andre was interessted to start back over. So they bought a drumcomputer and went right back to work to write new songs. Andre gave up the singer part to get more concentration to his bass plays and Oliver Hippauf was reactivated for singing.
The first tries with the drumcomputer did not rubb out the thought for a real drummer because the fans screamed for a band with a drummer. After long searches and struggles Sascha Kurpanek from Greven was the solution for all problems. He was looking for musical work out and so finally Moshquito was recovered to a real good old Metal band. In 1998 Oliver Hippauf, Ingo Lohf, Andre Nebel and Sascha Kurpanek recorded there first CD named „Secrets“ at Ingos studio. The Album was labelled by „Noiseworks-Records“ and got selled by ones own initiative.
But the tragedy and struggles flowed in row and so Sascha lost his job and went back to his hometown and out of the band. During the recording of the second album „Worlds end“ Sascha left and they had a last play together at the biggest event in Moshquitos history at the Full Force in 1999. (Visit our "WFF Gallery"!)
A new member joined the band with the Leipziger Jens Maluschka who was the new drummer at that time and the album „Worlds End“ which was published under „Morbid Records“ could come to an end. Especially in the international scene critics rised up very positivly and participated the Live-gigs.
But Jens was looking for another challenge and so John Uhle from Lichtenstein replaced Jens as a drummer. So the luck was on Moshquitos sunny side and John and his gitarrist Enrico Wiechert from his old band Dangerous joined as new members.
But the history of cuts and ends and new members didn`t seem to come to an end as in march 2003 Oliver Hippauf finally quit his singer part. The new age on the front of Moshquito is Michael Morgenstern from Chemnitz .
The third album „Enter New Spheres“ is now ready to blow up your ears and we are constantly looking for some support for the new material.
Also we can offer you our first Live-DVD, recorded at the "Chronical Moshers Open Air" in 2005. This record includes the complete concert, longer than 1 hour, a big gallery, as well as some funny scenes from our rehearsal room.
At the End of 2006 the Line-up will be changed again. Enrico gets a new job in another country, so he can't support the band any longer. The new member on guitar is Maik Richter from Oelsnitz/E., good luck!
Moshquito is ready to enter new spheres national and inetrnational and always remember: We are not quiting because we have the death in our venes and the music in our fingers and we are ready to blow up your mind!!!
